Schizophrenia is one of the most disabling syndromes in psychiatry. It should not be confused with "split personality" which is a totally different syndrome that falls under the category of "dissociative" syndromes (it is in fact very rare).Schizophrenia affects 1% of the population and its cause is thought largely to be genetic but environment/stress can play a role in symptom severity.

Alarmingly, the increased use of methamphetamines and ecstasy is producing an increasing number of "stimulant-induced psychosis" which , for all intensive purposes , is schizophrenia people give themselves by doing drugs.

• Symptoms fall into the "positive" and "negative" categories and can include:
• voices/hallucinations
• delusions
• disorganizd thinking
• feeling one has special powers
• feeling one gets messages from t.v. or radio
• thought blocking
• poor grooming/poor social interactions
